Identify before upgrading

Sealed equipment hides its rolled bonuses. Nyra offers identification and salvage; review the item count, Marks cost or Dust return before confirming. Identifying reveals the original roll rather than rerolling it.

Rarity, quality and item level affect different parts of equipment. Socket limits and Arcane Capacity are separate: a free gem socket is not a promise of free enchantment capacity.

Item abilities

Rare and better gear can do more than carry stats. Its tooltip names each ability and when it works: On Hit has a chance to go off when you strike, Right Click is yours to use on a cooldown, and Equipped works for as long as you wear or hold the item. Sealed gear does nothing until it's identified.

Use Forge & Sockets

Right-click an anvil. Put identified equipment on the left and a compatible socket gem on the right. Review the exact result, then confirm. The menu checks available sockets and rejects incompatible or invalid equipment.

Gem types have their own bonuses. Their Aspect is a classification used by research; the Aspect name alone does not add another stat. A Prismatic gem is a research catalyst and carries no Aspect.

Socket types

Gear tooltips list their sockets under Gemstone Slots, and the forge names the next one before you confirm.

Socket Found on Takes
[C] Combat Weapons Ruby, Amethyst
[D] Defensive Armour and shields Sapphire, Onyx
[G] Gathering Tools, rods and other gathering gear Topaz, Aquamarine, Jade, Citrine
[U] Universal The last socket of legendary, mythic and relic gear Any gem

Emerald and Moonstone fit any socket. Prismatic gems fit only a Universal socket.

Gems and geodes can't be smelted, crafted, placed or traded as the vanilla item they look like. Merging is the only way to change a gem.

Keep a safe working inventory

Merge matching gems up to Perfect, or recover installed gems for Arcane Dust. Leave room for results and returned inputs. Closing the forge with no storage space can drop returned inputs at your feet.
